Company History
The story of this family owned business began about 60 years ago when tile setting master craftsman Richard Stark founded a tile company in Wimmental, a small town in Southern Germany. Richard’s son Werner followed in his father’s footsteps by placing second in a national tile setting competition and later receiving his master’s degree in tile setting. Werner Stark became CEO of his family’s company in the early 1980s. Life changed in 1986 when Werner followed his lifelong dream of moving to America. After his success in Germany, Werner used his God-given talents and European craftsmanship to help launch a burgeoning tile company that eventually, would be the sole responsibility of Werner and his wife Monika. Monika and their three children followed in 1987, and Ceramic Harmony quickly became a popular destination for homeowners and builders looking for high-quality craftsmanship, materials and out of the box kitchen, bathroom and flooring designs out of tile or natural stone. Werner’s team placed first in the National Tile Contractors Association’s tile setting competition in 1993 and 1994. In their quest to be the forerunners in their industry it was necessary for Werner to work with a fabricator in Atlanta, GA to acquire granite, marble, travertine or limestone countertops which would soon result in them opening the first stone fabrication shop in Huntsville, Alabama. This facility then enabled their capabilities to manufacture any designs out of stone slabs they could imagine. In 1998, Ceramic Harmony’s growth and the addition of stone fabrication capabilities led the company to expand into their current location in South Huntsville. By moving to this location they were also able to acquire more technologically advanced machines that would increase their stone fabrication capabilities with the use of CNC driven machinery and waterjet cutting. The dedication to craft and quality continues today. In 2016, Ceramic Harmony won the Pinnacle Award from the Marble Institute of America for the “Bathroom of the Year”.
